DAY ROTTERDAM Our ship will dock at Rotterdam port at 07:00 in the morning. After breakfast, free time for shopping and personal activities. Known as the architectural capital of the Netherlands, Rotterdam is a strong port city with many different faces. As the country’s second-largest city after Amsterdam, it also holds an important place in world trade. Above all, being an artistic settlement makes it the leading city in the Netherlands for innovative architecture. Guests who wish may join the “Rotterdam-The Hague City Tour” organized as an extra by their guide. Rotterdam, home to Europe’s largest port, takes its name from the Rotte River. It is the second most populous city in the Netherlands after Amsterdam. Rebuilt after World War II, the city acquired its interesting and modern architecture from postmodern structures, geometric shapes, and unusual arrangements. The Erasmus Bridge, located over the Maas River and named after one of the pioneers of humanism, the Old Harbor, a symbol of trade and wealth, the Cube Houses inspired by Ponte Vecchio in Florence, and Willem Bridge are among the places we will see on our tour. The Hague, known in Dutch as Den Haag, is an important center in South Holland for world politics. It is the city where the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ government, ministries, parliament, Supreme Court, and Council of State are located. The city hosts 150 international institutions, the most prominent of which are the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court. The Binnenhof, one of Europe’s oldest parliamentary buildings, originally built as a castle in the 13th century; Passage, Europe’s oldest shopping street, surrounded by many cafés, restaurants, and souvenir shops; Peace Palace, the symbol of peace and justice; The Hague Royal Palace; and Het Loo Palace, built by King William III, are among the main places we will see during our city tour. After free time, we return to our ship. Our ship will depart at 17:00. Dinner and overnight on board. 09. DAY LE HAVRE Our ship will dock at Le Havre port at 10:00 in the morning. We head to Honfleur, located in the heart of Calvados, an important region of Lower Normandy, which gave its name to the famous apple liqueur. Honfleur, a charming small port town once favored by painters such as Camille Corot, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet, Gustave Courbet, Raoul Dufy, Johan-Bartold Jongkind, Paul Signac, and Georges Seurat because of its incredible light, is explored on foot. On Honfleur’s quays where sailing boats are moored and through its narrow streets, you can see beautiful old houses, the “Lieutenance” building, the 15th-century wooden Sainte Catherine Church built by ship carpenters, its separately built bell tower, and the old salt warehouse. After free time, we stop in Deauville, the pearl of Normandy. This wealthy French resort town, which gained fame when Coco Chanel opened a boutique here in the early 20th century and became a meeting point for high society, may have lost some of its importance over time, but it has preserved its beauty and charm. Its beach, blue cabins, and wooden boardwalks especially help you imagine the past. After visiting Deauville, we return to Le Havre, which was completely destroyed in World War II and rebuilt, and has been inscribed on the World Heritage List for its “Post-War Urban Planning” and “Creative Use of Concrete.” Our ship will depart Le Havre port at 21:30.
